Silver Linings Playbook

To mark Mental Health Awareness Week 2015, Cardiff sciSCREEN, MRC CNGG and NCMH held a special free screening of Silver Linings Playbook at Cineworld Cardiff.
The Oscar winning comedy drama starring Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence and Robert DeNiro was followed by talks from experts on the themes of the film and its portrayal of mental health issues, and an open group discussion.

About our speakers
Professor Nick Craddock has been described by the Lancet Medical Journal as a world leader in the field of Psychiatric Genetics.
Founder and former director of the National Centre for Mental Health, Professor Craddock has written over 300 scientific papers, led the world's largest study into bipolar disorder and even worked as a script advisor on bipolar disorder for Eastenders. He also appeared in the award winning BBC documentary The Secret Life of the Manic Depressive with Stephen Fry.
Mark Smith is an active mental health campaigner, who has helped raise awareness and tackle mental health stigma and discrimination as a Champion of the Time to Change Wales campaign.
He lives with bipolar disorder type ii and runs a volunteer-led mental health arts organisation, Making Minds, in his spare time. Mark is currently heavily involved in plans to organise Wales’ first ever mental health arts festival.
Dr Susan Bisson of Cardiff University's School of Journalism, Media and Cultural Studies researches the depiction of mental health issues in film, including how psychiatry is depicted and what those with experience of psychosis make of its representation on film.
Sue has a keen interest in Mental Health issues, and works on a part time basis for mental health charity Hafal.
